I'm using an SBT in my car, mainly for it's optical output as I'm using a DSP that takes an optical input.Yes I know they're not designed for automotive use,but I'm working my around the inherent problems with this type of use.
I'm thinking about changing to a larger screen as I can just about squeeze an 8 inch open frame SKD 4:3 into a standard double DIN opening.Do all LCD TFT screens have standardised wiring,i.e. power/ground,signal etc from the controller board to the display, also of course the touch panel if it's a standard 4 wire resistive type?
One problem with this type of use is it's high stand by current which isn't a problem when used plugged permanently into a mains wall socket. It draws 500mA on standby, when a proper car head unit draws about 10mA.So when the car is left garaged for a few days,I have to leave it unplugged from it's power source if I don't want a flat battery. Then when I use it again,I switch the power back on and have to wait for it to do it's full reboot cycle, then tell it not to look for a wi-fi connection etc and all the other stuff it needs to go through before it can play music. The high stand by current isn't a problem if it boots up nice and quickly every time, which unfortunately it never does.
Is there a way (custom software etc) to make it work as just a basic music player with a file browser, getting rid of all the crap I don't need such as it's need to network with other devices?
There are other things about the way it works I'm not happy with. The volume control is one of them. For safety reasons I can't use the on-screen volume control while driving (it's just way too sensitive) and the one on the remote just isn't sensitive enough if I need to turn the volume down quickly.
Here's how it is at the moment, temporary of course........

Sorry if these questions have been asked and answered before,I did read back through several pages and couldn't see the answers to my specific questions.
Chris.
